What is a Chukka boot?
Chukka boots or turf boots are ankle-length leather boots with two or three pairs of eyelets for lacing. The name chukka comes from the game of polo, where a “chukka” is a period of play. A form of chukka boots worn by British forces in the Western Desert Campaign of World War II are desert boots. Chukkas are usually made from calfskin or suede, The sole is traditionally crepe rubber, but may also be leather as well. The style first became popular in the late 1940’s through the 1960’s as casual wear and can be worn with both suits and more casual wear like jeans.
